A Street Soccer Story coming to Traverse Theatre

Traverse Theatre have announced an exciting new production: Same Team – A Street Soccer Story, which will hit the stage in December.

The play is based on Street Soccer Scotland’s Street45 programme after writers Robbie Gordon and Jack Nurse took inspiration from weekly women’s only programmes at Change Centre Dundee.

The iconic Traverse Theatre, in its 60th anniversary year, will run Same Team – A Street Soccer Story for eight nights during December with more shows anticipated for 2024.

The production is a collaboration between Street Soccer Scotland, Burness Paull and Traverse, with the latter outlining the play in a statement:

Same Team is a story of five homeless women in Dundee coming together and setting out to win the Homeless Football World Cup in Milan. A warm, heartfelt story of friendship, community and teamwork taking place in an uplifting whirlwind through the highs and lows of homeless football.

This vital and pressing story, directed by Bryony Shanahan (Bloody ElleEnough), is part of the Traverse’s ongoing commitment to working with communities and uncovering unheard voices while challenging the political and artistic norms.”

David Duke, Street Soccer Scotland Founder and CEO, highlighted:

“The creative process was inspiring and educational for our team and the end product is funny, thought provoking, stigma reducing, emotional and inspiring.”
