Street Soccer volunteer Jordan Thomson scooped top prize in the Inspirational Young Adult Award at the Edinburgh Evening News’ Local Heroes Awards.
A regular at almost all of our Edinburgh sessions, Jordan has typified the spirit of Street Soccer by achieving so much during 2021.
Recently achieving his Saltire Award for 500 hours volunteering, Jordan has progressed through the player pathway since engaging with Street Soccer around four years ago. After experiencing homelessness during the height of the pandemic, Jordan continued to help out others at sessions and was a key figure of Scotland’s Homeless World Cup’s Four Nations event in September.
Going from strength to strength, the 21 year old secured a flat, a place at college and employment throughout this time and hopes the skills he has learned from Street Soccer at sessions allow him to continue to progress.
“I can’t believe it! It was an amazing night and I’m so honoured to win this award. It’s been a really memorable year and I hope things continue to get better and better.”
Jordan’s volunteering has covered work with both young people and adults, as well as supporting at our weekly ASN session in Portobello.
Progressing through the Working Rite programme as its first participant in 2017, Jordan is now looking forward to the future.
“It’s been a crazy year. I’m grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had and hope they keep coming my way.”
Well done, Jordan! Everyone at Street Soccer is proud of the work you continue to do across Edinburgh. Recognition with this award is well deserved.
