John’s Story

Playing it Forward.

A familiar face joined us at our Street Soccer Summer Festival this week. John, 45 from Edinburgh has been attending Street Soccer for just over 2 years but this time he had a different reason for coming along.

John has recently started work as Outreach Support Worker with Edinburgh based Homelessness Charity, Cyrenians and brought a new group of players along for the first time. Something which he takes great pride in.

John said “ Street Soccer gave me a sense of belonging and life skills. It became my family and my home and provided me with a support network. I developed people skills which I didn’t have before and I learned about myself, how to treat people fairly and helped me find a positive attitude to life.”

John who is enjoying his new job now has hope for today and excited about what the future holds. “My Next goal is simply to continue to do what I am doing now, and continue to believe in myself. From being homeless and sleeping rough in Edinburgh, I am now working with others using my own life experience to help them whichever way I can”
