Team Scotland Event Line Up Announced
Street Soccer Scotland are delighted to announce this year's event line up for the Men’s and Women’s National Team
Our Men’s Team will travel to take part in the Homeless World Cup in Cardiff from Saturday 27th July until Saturday 3rd August 2019. The annual football tournament will bring together 51 nations from across the world and will take place in Bute Park, Cardiff. Former Street Soccer Scotland players, Thomas Hobbs and Jamie MacLean will take charge of the men’s team who have been training for the last 6 weeks in preparation for the global event. The team (which will be announced this week) will feature players from Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh. As well as training for the Homeless World Cup, players have been involved in team building and personal development activities and this will continue after the tournament with volunteer positions at Street Soccer available to all players, as well as additional support.
Our Women’s Team will travel to Nagpur, India from 23rd September until 1st October to part in the Friendship Tour with our partners Slum Soccer. Players and staff will visit various projects across Nagpur and will take in part in Exhibition Matches in the community as well as volunteer at local projects. The team will also play against the Slum Soccer India Woman’s National Team. Players will be selected from the Street 45 Woman’s Programme and will take part in development sessions and education programmes prior to the trip. If you or your organisation would like to get involved in the women’s programme, please email [email protected]
Street Soccer Scotland Founder and CEO, David Duke said, “I am very pleased that we can announce two life changing trips for our ‘Team Scotland’ players. The opportunity to come together as a team, learn together and train in the build up to a trip, offers great growth for players and staff alike. Unfortunately, we applied to participate in the Women’s Homeless World Cup but didn’t get a place due to event capacity, however we are delighted that we still have both a Men’s team and Women’s team competing and learning on the international stage”.
The Men’s Team will have a fantastic experience at the Homeless World Cup, a very special tournament and our Women’s Team will experience new cultures and gain skills whilst representing their country on the Friendship Tour with Slum Soccer
Special thanks must go to the sponsors and partners for the teams, Burness Paull Foundation, Edinburgh Airport, Scotch Beef and the Scottish Government for their continued support. Also thanks to the various organisations who have assisted our players in the journey to here.
