Street Soccer’s Jordan up for Local Hero Award

Street Soccer volunteer Jordan Thomson has been nominated as a finalist in the Edinburgh Evening News’ Edinburgh Local Hero Awards, in the category of Inspirational Young Adult.

Jordan, who has been coming to Street Soccer sessions since 2016, is a great help to our sessions across the capital and was a key part of Team Scotland’s squad at the Four Nations Cup in September.

Earlier this year, Jordan was recognised with a Saltire Award for over 100 hours of voluntary work with Street Soccer.

Jordan was delighted on receiving the news of his nomination, “I’ve been very excited since I first found out. I’m sure it will be a great evening and I’m looking forward to it.”

When reflecting on his journey with Street Soccer, Jordan highlighted that through his communication skills improving, he has been able to find new opportunities for personal development.

“When I first came to Street Soccer five years ago, I would hardly talk to anyone. Now I feel a sense of leadership at sessions, I can help others with their issues and I’m just generally a much happier and chattier guy. This has helped me secure a place at college and a new job in the last few months too.”

At just 21, Jordan has achieved a lot with Street Soccer so far and we’re delighted that all his hard work is being recognised. Well done Jordan and good luck!

The 2021 Edinburgh Local Hero Awards take place at the  Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa on December 9, and tickets are available via www.edinburghlocalheroes.co.uk
